		<description>I didn&#039;t fully get why the article is titled &quot;Save the Cheerleader&quot; did anyone catch the meaning of the analogy?

Also I don&#039;t see how things are going to be any different in our party system in the future. Is it that we need to realize the importance of the independent and therefore encourage all to act like them in order to get the parties to change?

With all respect I tend to disagree that the independents have had any real influence in politics or that they have been seeking principled solutions to government problems, for our nation has gotten itself in a real mess over the past decades and it keeps on steering in that direction. 

But the tea parties seem to be a sign people are waking up to the mess and maybe they are the &quot;cheerleaders&quot;
